Short Bio

Greetings! I got my bachelor's degree in Electrical and Electronics Engineering from Bogazici University (Istanbul, Turkey) in 2009. Before moving to the US, I worked for NanoMagnetics Instruments as a firmware/software engineer under the supervision of Prof. Ahmet Oral. In 2010, I joined Prof. Haluk Ogmen's Perceptual and Cognitive Dynamics lab located at the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, University of Houston. In this lab, I learned about the general concepts of vision science, and I gained invaluable experience in psychophysical techniques. In my doctoral research, I investigated non-retinotopic reference frames in human form and motion perception. From 2012 to early 2015, I also worked with Prof. Vallabh Das at the College of Optometry on oculomotor control of eye movements in non-human primates. More specifically, my work involved electrophysiological recordings from Oculomotor and Abducens nuclei in normal and strabismic macaques to understand the underlying mechanisms of eye misalignment in strabismus. In April 2015, in order to diversify my background, I joined SELAB at UC Berkeley to work with Prof. Susana Chung on functional retinal imaging in humans with normal vision and in patients with Age-Related Macular Degeneration (AMD). My current work is on eye movements and spatio-temporal vision. I am deeply interested in how these processes work in normal vision and how they are affected in people with visual impairments. I love computational modeling of both neural and psychophysical data. Below, you can find more information about me, including a list of publications.
